Headed East

I did the background to this at the same time I did "Free Yourself".  Instead of painting the sparrow w/acrylics, I tried my hand at pan pastels.  It definitely gives it a softer look.  What I loved was being able to make the sparrow a bit translucent so that it was more intergrated w/ the background.

Free Yourself

Inspired by my previous art journal piece "Fly", I decided to try my hand at painting a sparrow instead of stenciling it.  I started out with collaging old papers, some stenciling (#s and circles) and different layers of paint.  I'm very pleased with this painting.  :0)

Getting more and more comfortable w/portrait painting.  I'm really loving the process now that I have kinda my own groove now.  Where does the time fly?  That's the great thing about creating art, time is non-existant.  :0)

First Portrait Painting

Here is my first portrait painting!  It's actually a self portrait too.  It was very challenging mixing flesh tones w/only blue, yellow and red, but I feel like I learned a lot from this exercise from Misty Mawn's workshop.  There were moments I wanted to through it in the trash, but I'm glad I stuck with it!

 

Roses of Love

In the background around the edges of this painting, I collaged poems that Steve has given to me over the past years.  The roses represent his unconditional, vibrant love for me.  My amazing husband will often suprise me with roses, just because.  :0)  The words written around the roses are words he spoke to me one night and I so happen to write it down before we both forgot!  

Wandering

Here is my fourth painting I just finished from the Layer Love workshop.  I am in love with painting over a black base!  It's my favorite technique of the day.  :0)  I say that because tomorrow, it could easily change.  Still exploring different techniques and loving the process!  In this piece, I also embedded anise stars.  Aren't they natural beauties?

Here is another painting I did for my Layer Love workshop.  In this lesson, we used embedded objects in our painting.  I love adding dimensional objects, it just makes the artwork pop.  :0)

Laila

A friend of mine commissioned me to paint  pieces for her two daughters.  Chris loved my Kokeshi Doll painting and so I'm doing a doll for each girl.  Of course, I'm using their favorite colors and affirmations that their mom chose.  Here is Laila's:

Layers I

Here is another painting from the "Layer Love" workshop I'm taking.  This one we were to add and remove painting by doing monotype painting onto deli paper.  I had a blast with it!  I like it as is for now, but I might add more later.  Who knows...
